 

#  Emeritus Professor of Economics and History, David Landes, Has Passed Away

 David Landes, who retired in 1997 as Coolidge Professor of History and Professor of Economics at Harvard University, passed away on August 17, 2013 in Haverford, Pennsylvania.

 Harvard University elected him Professor of History in 1964 where he remained during the rest of his career. He was known for arguing the central role of culture in economic development.

 Among his publications are *The Wealth and Poverty of Nations: Why Some Are So Rich and Some So Poor* (1998), *Revolution in Time* (1983), *The Unbound Prometheus: Technological Change and Industrial Development in Western Europe from 1750 to the Present* (1969).
