 Professor Gopinath has also been named among the most influential people in 2019 by both Bloomberg and Foreign Policy.

 Professor Gita Gopinath has been named among [Bloomberg’s 50](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-12-04/gita-gopinath-is-the-imf-s-new-economic-growth-genius) people worldwide who defined 2019. Earlier this year, Foreign Policy named her one of the [Top Global Thinkers in 2019](https://foreignpolicy.com/2019-global-thinkers/). And the President of India awarded her the [Pravasi Bharatiya Samman](https://www.mea.gov.in/pravasi-bharatiya-samman.htm) for 2019, the highest honor conferred on overseas Indians by the Government of India.

 [Gita Gopinath](https://scholar.harvard.edu/gopinath/home) is the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and of Economics at Harvard University. She is currently on leave of public service from the economics department to serve as the [Chief Economist](https://www.imf.org/en/About/senior-officials/Bios/gita-gopinath) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
