This year's 375th Commencement featured several memorable traditions and special moments, including a performance by the Middlesex County Volunteer Fife and Drum Corps and a Commencement Address delivered by Harvard alumnus and acclaimed television host Conan O'Brien. The celebrations reflected both the University's rich history and the bright futures awaiting its graduates.

For the Department of Economics, the occasion was an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of 25 students who earned their Doctor of Philosophy degrees after years of rigorous study, groundbreaking research, and scholarly contribution.

Following the University's Morning Exercises, the Department hosted its annual Economics Graduation Celebration, bringing together graduates and the families, friends, faculty, and staff who supported them throughout their academic journeys.

Department Chair Elie Tamer addressed the graduates and their loved ones, reflecting on the perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and commitment that brought the students to this important milestone. He encouraged graduates to carry forward not only the analytical rigor and pursuit of excellence cultivated during their time at Harvard, but also the importance of kindness in both their professional and personal lives.

"The skills and knowledge you have developed here will serve you well," Tamer noted, emphasizing that compassion and respect for others are equally essential qualities for successful careers and meaningful lives.

Following the remarks, graduates, guests, and faculty members gathered for a celebratory champagne toast and enjoyed chocolate-covered strawberries while reflecting on their achievements and the opportunities that lie ahead.

The Department of Economics is immensely proud of the Class of 2026 and looks forward to the impact these new scholars will have as researchers, educators, policymakers, and leaders around the world. Their accomplishments represent not only the successful completion of a demanding academic program but also the beginning of new chapters that will shape the future of economic thought and public policy.

Congratulations to the Harvard University Economics Ph.D. Class of 2026.
