#  Professor Stefanie Stantcheva Awarded the 2025 Clark Medal from the American Economic Association 

 





Stefanie Stantcheva, Harvard University Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy, was named the 2025 Clark Medalist for her contributions to the field of public economics. Her work on government taxation and private behavior is paramount in providing a foundational understanding of tax systems, as well as informing policy debates.

[Stantcheva](https://www.stefanie-stantcheva.com/) studies taxation of firms and individuals, as well as how attitudes are formed towards economic policies. She uses large-scale social economics surveys and experiments in her recent work to explore attitudes towards taxation, trade, immigration, climate change, and social mobility.

Through her research she has been able to provide an understanding of the long-term effects of tax policy on innovation, education and wealth—such as fostering innovation through R&D policies, the impact of income and corporate taxes on 20th century innovation, and structuring student loans to improve access to education.

The [John Bates Clark Medal](https://www.aeaweb.org/about-aea/honors-awards/bates-clark) is awarded annually by the [American Economic Association](https://www.aeaweb.org/about-aea/honors-awards/bates-clark) to an American economist under the age of forty who is judged to have made the most significant contribution to economic thought and knowledge.
