###    Am I able to submit my proposal directly to the sponsor without the need for OSP. Can I skip the OSP review process?  expand\_more  

 No. As a policy for receiving funds into Harvard, all proposals must be reviewed and recorded with the proper documentation prior to submission to the sponsor. This will also ensure that Harvard is able to accept funding from this sponsor. 



 

 

 



###    What should I include in the proposal?  expand\_more  

 There are common elements of most proposals, including a research plan or project description, budget and budget justification, and biographical sketch(es) of all senior personnel. Each sponsor will have specific guidelines that your sponsored research administrator will help you navigate. 



 

 

 



###    What can I put in a budget?  expand\_more  

 The sponsor my impose certain budgetary restrictions. Typical budget categories are researcher salaries and fringe benefits, travel, materials &amp; supplies, publication costs, and (not to forget) indirect costs. Your sponsored research administrator can provide you with a budget template. 



 

 

 



###    Can I budget a portion of my salary?  expand\_more  

 Yes, if the sponsor allows for salaries, you may determine your effort level on the research project for each year and budget accordingly. 



 

 

 



###    What rate should I use for the indirect cost rate (aka Facilities and Administrative (F&amp;A) costs)?  expand\_more  

- All non-federal sponsored awards must include a minimum of 15%, per this Policy on Assessments <https://research.fas.harvard.edu/links/fas-and-seas-policy-assessments-current-use-gifts-and-sponsored-awards>
- All federal sponsored awards will use the current year rates Harvard has negotiated with the federal government <https://osp.finance.harvard.edu/fa-rate-agreements>
