# DUS Letter

January 2026

Dear Ec Concentrators,

The spring semester is here! We hope you had a restful break, and all of us in the Economics Department are excited to welcome you back. This letter highlights some key information for Ec concentrators, but if you take only one piece of information from this note, I hope it is this: **We are here for you**. Please never hesitate to reach out to me or your Ec Advising Team if there is anything we can do. All contact info for the Ec Advising Team is here: <https://www.economics.harvard.edu/advising>

[Advising Office Hours](https://economics.harvard.edu/advising) open for the semester on Thursday, January 22nd and provide 30 hours a week of drop-in, one-on-one advising, Monday through Friday, with our Ec Advisors. Please see the [Ec Advising page](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/advising) for details on how to attend. Note: Office Hours are Zoom-only January 22nd and 23rd and will be in-person and Zoom starting January 26th.

As a reminder, you can find [advising details](https://economics.harvard.edu/advising), [course information](https://economics.harvard.edu/courses-tutorials-and-seminars), [job opportunities](https://economics.harvard.edu/opportunities), and loads of other information on the [Economics Department website](https://economics.harvard.edu/undergraduate).

**First-Years:** Please visit our [office hours](https://economics.harvard.edu/advising) anytime to discuss your interest in Economics! We would love to talk with you.

**Sophomores**: If you were hoping to take Ec 970 (the Ec Sophomore Tutorial) in Spring 2026 but did not enter the lottery in November during course registration, tutorials with space will be open for enrollment on a first-come, first-serve basis on my.harvard during add/drop period, with no instructor permission required (as long as students have met the stats and intermediate microeconomics prerequisites). Students who are currently enrolled in a tutorial but would like to switch their assigned tutorial will likewise be able to do so on my.harvard during add/drop period. See the [Ec 970 Canvas site](https://canvas.harvard.edu/courses/161288) for details and contact information.

**Juniors:** If you were hoping to take an [Ec 980 Junior Seminar](https://economics.harvard.edu/junior-seminars)in Spring 2026, but did not enter the lottery in November during course registration, please reach out to the course instructor to see if there is space in the course. Junior seminars are a great opportunity to work closely with an Ec faculty member, take a deep dive into an economics research question, and apply all the economics knowledge you've learned over the previous 2.5 years.

Still need to take an [Ec 970 Sophomore Tutorial](https://economics.harvard.edu/sophomore-tutorial) but didn’t register in November? Check out the information above (in “Sophomores”) and see the [Ec 970 Canvas site](https://canvas.harvard.edu/courses/161288) for details.

If you’re interested in writing a thesis senior year but didn’t attend the *Junior Thesis Interest Meeting* in December, please reach out to Kiran Gajwani [by email or her office hours](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/advising) (starting Jan 22) for info and advice on making the most of your junior spring to prep for senior fall! You can also explore the [Senior Thesis page](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/senior-thesis) and the Ec Thesis Canvas site for more details and guidance on the thesis process.

**Seniors:** If you have questions about whether you have completed your Ec degree requirements and have not yet spoken with an Ec Advisor, please [reach out to your advisor](https://economics.harvard.edu/advising) as soon as possible. Make sure your concentration advisor knows your [track choice](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/concentrating-economics) (Basic, Advanced Course Track, Thesis). You will not be registered for the Honors Exam unless you declare an honors track (ACT or Thesis). Please note that [the Honors Exam](https://economics.harvard.edu/honors-program) will be held on April 13, 2026, 3-7:30pm.

If you are **first-semester senior** (Spring 2026 is your seventh semester), you have the option to pursue an “off-cycle” Ec Senior Thesis for Spring 2026-Fall 2026. If you are interested in pursuing a Spring-Fall 2026 thesis, please write to <econundergrad@fas.harvard.edu> as soon as possible.

**Courses**

There are many excellent economics electives on offer this semester, which you can browse [here](https://economics.harvard.edu/courses-tutorials-and-seminars).

Finally, the Economics Department's initiatives on Community and Inclusion can be found on the Department website. We also have a private email address (<letECknow@fas.harvard.edu>) for anyone to report any concerns related to your experience of, in, and with the Economics Department. We promise to take your concerns seriously and, when appropriate, discuss them with others to improve the well-being of members of our community.

If you have any questions, please [**contact us**](https://economics.harvard.edu/advising) or visit us in Ec Advising Office Hours. We wish you all the best for the coming semester, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Warm regards,
