## Economics Electives and Theory Prerequisite Requirements

[PDF](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum5991/files/2026-05/2026-2027_economics%20electives_V2.pdf) of 2026-2027 economics electives (updated 5/20/26)

We also have a [sortable list](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum5991/files/2026-05/Master_writing_and_theory_courses_all_electives.xlsx), which includes a historical list of electives from 2017 onwards. For information prior to 2017, please contact an economics advisor.

Starting Fall 2026 (for concentrators graduating Feb. 2027 onwards), the Ec Dept will no longer require that concentrators take at least one economics elective that is designated as a writing course. For any questions on this or anything elective-related, please reach out to an Ec Advisor or come to office hours: <http://economics.harvard.edu/advising>

## Other Courses that Get Economics Credit

There are several [other courses](https://www.economics.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum5991/files/2025-08/other_courses_2025-26.pdf) across the university for which Economics concentration credit or Economics secondary field credit would be awarded. Please note, instructor approval is required (and not guaranteed!) for the courses on this list that are offered outside the College. (Prior to Fall 2024, students needed to file a petition for approved cross-registered courses to count for the Economics concentration. This petition is no longer necessary. See College details on cross-registration [here.](https://registrar.fas.harvard.edu/cross-registration))
