Applied Math & Economics

(cited from AM/SEAS website)

Mathematical modeling is used extensively in economics, and the foundation of economic theory is formed on a mathematical basis. The requirements for applied mathematics and economics are made and continuously updated in cooperation with the Economics Department. For the five classes in section (d), we require

  • Economics 1011a
  • Economics 1011b
  • Economics 1126 or 1127

Plus two other economics classes in economics to be chosen from the appended document. The list is updated yearly.

Please note: We do not give concentration credit for the less mathematical classes Economics 1010a, 1010b or 1123.

Students sometimes get interested in the concentration after having taken 1010a, and for these students we allow them to count 1010a as long as they take some course where 1011a is a prerequisite. An example of an option here is to take Economics 1052, the more mathematical game theory course.
