Meeting the Writing Requirement
One economics
writing course is required for all economics concentrators on the basic
track, and two economics writing courses are required for those pursuing the
Advanced Course Track (see Requirements).
Courses that meet the writing requirement generally have a research paper due
at the end of the term. Some courses have an optional final paper which
can meet the writing requirement. In such cases, students must have the
professor sign the optional writing form contained here and turn this in to Emily Neill in Littauer
113. As of Fall 2010, students may not take a writing
requirement course Pass/Fail (students who did so with the permission of the
professor before Fall 2010 are grandfathered). Please see the list below
for current course offerings that meet this requirement.
Note for thesis writers: If thesis track concentrators drop the thesis mid-year
and divide 985 with credit, they may switch to the Advance Course Track and
meet the second writing requirement with the first term of
985.

All sophomores will also learn about how to do research in economics in their sophomore tutorials (EC 970), though this course does not count towards the writing requirement. You will receive a bound copy of Writing Economics in that tutorial. The guide is also always available here: WritingEconomics.pdf
