Three Economics Faculty Elected as Fellows to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has announced the election of new fellows for 2009 in the sciences, humanities and the arts, business, public affairs, and the non-profit sector. Among Harvard’s new inductees are three faculty members from the Department of Economics: Philippe Aghion, Robert C. Waggoner Professor of Economics; Benjamin Friedman, William Joseph Maier Professor of Political Economy; and Guido Imbens, Professor of Economics.
They are among 210 new AAAS Fellows and 19 Foreign Honorary Members of one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies and a center for independent policy research. There were 17 Harvard faculty members and a Radcliffe Institute Fellow named to the AAAS this year.
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences was established in 1780 by the nation’s founders to study complex and emerging problems, and conducts wide-ranging, interdisciplinary, long-term policy research endeavors.
