Readme file for: "tribe_level_slave_exports_Atlantic_Indian.dta"

The file reports slave export figures each century for the trans-Atlantic and Indian Ocean slave trades.

The slave export figures are measured in persons. Because of the calculation procedure, the original estimates are not integers (i.e. can be in "fractions" of people). The figures reported in the file are rounded to the nearest integer. If you would like the original data that have not been rounded to the nearest integer, feel free to contact me <nnunn@fas.harvard.edu>.

Although the slave shipment and slave ethnicity data on which the slave export figures are based are fine enough to calculate estimates of the number of slaves shipped from each "country" in the trans-Saharan and Red Sea slave trades, they are not fine enough to construct estimates at the "ethnicity"-level. Therefore, the file does not include estimates for the trans-Saharan and Red Sea slave trades
